Are you facing a tamping problem with your Breville Oracle Touch Machine?
Is the tamping not coming out properly? Is it messy?
I know that when this tamping issue happens, it is a little bit annoying as this may spoil the overall taste of your coffee.
While pulling espresso, a lot of attention is paid to the puck of grounds in the portafilter.
And it should not be a surprise since it is the epicenter of the entire process.
We all know that Breville Oracle Touch Machine is a next-generation, fully automatic espresso machine.
Once you understand the right way to use it, it is pretty easy to use.
However, sometimes it won’t give you the desired result because of certain issues, including tamping issues.
Before digging into the tamping problems, you must know the answers to these two questions:
One is what is tamping and the other one is why is it so important?
Actually, tamping is a process to get an even extraction for your perfect espresso shot.
Tamping has two factors.
One is the right level and the second is right pressure.
A high tamp level ensures a more even water flow through the coffee.
And when the tamp is messy and uneven, it may result in uneven extraction since there will be more pressure on one side.
If you get a messy tamp every time you try to make a coffee, then there might be an issue with your tamp fan.
The tamp fan might not be working correctly.
So, if this is the issue, you will have to fix the fan.
Also, sometimes, the machine’s Allen screw may become loose or weary.
In that case, you will have to change or replace the old damaged screw.
Another possible problem can be related to moving of the basket in the portafilter.
Today, in this article, I will provide 4 main tamping problems and will also provide their simple solutions.
So, do read the article till the end to educate yourself about tamping problems that may happen with your Breville Oracle Touch machine.

4 Main Reasons That Cause Breville Oracle Touch Tamp Problems
There can be multiple issues while tamping in your Breville Oracle Touch machine.
It can be tricky to figure them out and then fix them.
So, I have listed below the 4 possible tamping problems for you.
Reason 1: Tamp fan is Loose
A loose tamp fan will not give you a good tamp.
Reason 2: Allen Screw is Loose or Weary
Sometimes, the machine’s Allan screw may become loose or it can go missing.
If this happens, then you will not be able to tamp properly.
Reason 3: The Basket is Moving
You will not get a perfect tamp if the basket moves around in the portafilter constantly.
Reason 4: The Bean Hopper is Underfilled
If the machine’s bean hopper is not filled correctly, it will not give you a good tamp.
4 Simple Solutions To Fix Breville Oracle Touch Tamping Problems
Solution 1: Fix a Loose Tamp Fan
First, remove the drip tray and look for the tamp removal magnet in the storage tray.
Then align it with the tamp fan and it will stick to it magnetically/
Now, pull it gently, and the tamp fan will come out.
After that, gently pull the fastener and magnetic portion that holds the tamping fan.
There you will find an Allen screw that holds the fastener tight to the magnetic part.
With this screw, you will be able to adjust the height of the tamper.
With the help of the Allen key that comes with your machine, set the tamp height to your desired length.
Solution 2: Fix a Loose Allen Screw
When you pull out the fastener and the magnetic portion of the tamping fan by the above-given method, check the Allen screw first.
Maybe it is loose, so tighten it with the Allen key.
And if you cannot fix it, you will have to replace it with the new one.
Just contact Breville customer support, and they will send a new one.
Solution 3: Adjust the Moving Basket Properly
If the tamping fan is all okay, then it might be possible that the basket in the portafilter is moving constantly.
This causes the tamping problem in your machine.
To fix this problem, you can wet the portafilter so the basket will not move around.
This will decrease the slickness of the basket and the portafilter.
Solution 4: Fill the Bean Hopper Completely
When the bean hopper of the Breville Oracle Touch Machine is not filled correctly, then it can affect the tamping function badly and it will not work as intended.
So always check the number of beans you put into the hopper.
And try to fill up the bean hopper sufficiently as much as possible.
